POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for performing tests on specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in a timely manner pursuant to established and approved protocols which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, with minimal supervision by the laboratory director or supervisor. Supervises subordinates in the absence of the Supervisor. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of Duties.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assists in monitoring and compliance of organization's Service Standards by laboratory employees.
- Ensures that the Supervisor is kept aware of work situations and the performance of each employee on an on-going basis.
- Trains newly hired technical staff effectively in the procedures of the department and pertinent policies.
- Prepares and sets-up equipment, testing compounds and work area.
- Calibrates, conducts performance checks, records and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments according to laboratory policy.
- Completes all scheduled and stat tests in a timely fashion.
- Places sample tubes in appropriate centrifuge for retrieving best plasma sample.
- Makes a determination of normal and abnormal test values accurately.
- Verifies the accuracy and completeness of results.
- Ensures proficiency testing samples are distributed and rotated among technical staff.
- Performs all other duties assigned by Supervisor and/or designee.
Requirements:
1. Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED.
In addition to meeting the qualification requirement of Assignment Level II, appointment to Level III requires:
1. One (1) year of full-time paid experience as a technologist in a clinical laboratory or blood bank.
